100 Elite Soldiers Airdropped Into Stricken Area

On Wednesday, May 14th at 12:20, a group of 100 Chinese soldiers, chosen from the elite airborne special forces, parachuted into an area near Monday's earthquake's epicenter. Due to destroyed roads, rescue workers could not get into the area. The paratroopers were dropped into Maoxian County, northeast of the quake's epicenter. According to the soldiers, the death toll was 95 as of 3pm Wednesday, along with 836 injured and 92 missing. Two of the areas hydropower stations were severely damaged during the quake and it is feared that the dams would burst. The local government with the help of the paratroopers is now evacuating the county. Troops and supplies were scheduled to be dropped into the area on Tuesday, but due to weather conditions, they had to be called back.
