Although China has just had its greatest natural disaster in over thirty years, almost all of China's tourist destinations are unharmed and tours throughout China have continued uninterrupted. The quake could be felt in most provinces and regions of China except Jilin, Heilongjiang, and the Xinjiang Autonomous Region. Although Chengdu, the nearest city to the earthquakes epicenter was hit, damages were very minor and no tourists, foreign or domestic, were injured in it. The giant earthquake did trigger a smaller earthquake outside of Beijing, but no deaths have been reported and all tourist destinations, and Olympic venues were unharmed.
Tourist destinations, and tours within Sichuan itself has been largely uninterrupted other than Chengdu City. Officials have ordered all visitors to the city to leave, and have forbid any new ones from arriving for the time being for safety reasons. Other than Chengdu, tours to Sichuan have continued. Chongqing located 266 kilometers away from Chengdu was unaffected. Most Yangtze River cruises begin or end in this city, and no tours have been stopped because of the earthquake.
Although the tremors could be felt as far away as Vietnam, China, other than Sichuan Province has had no damage, and the tourism industry has remained unaffected. China Odyssey Tours' headquarters are located in Guilin, in China's Guangxi Province. The earthquake occurred during office hours, and no employees felt them, although it has been reported that the tremors did reach this city.
